Due to ongoing civil strife in Venezuela, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has designated Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months through September 2022, for Venezuelan nationals who can demonstrate continuous presence in the U.S. as of March 8, 2021. TPS protects eligible individuals from being returned to their home countries, allowing them to remain lawfully in the United States if their country is designated.

Eligible Venezuelans will need to register within 180 days and may also request employment authorization. Venezuelans with TPS who wish to travel outside the U.S. will need to request permission in advance.

Contact Smith Knudson today to set a consultation to discuss eligibility for this important benefit. Certain criminal convictions may be disqualifying, so it is important to discuss your case with an attorney before applying. The registration period is limited so it is also important to act quickly.
