On his first day in office, President Biden has signed 17 Executive Actions, 5 of which defend immigration and help to reverse policies that were largely regarded as either unethical, or illegal.

The Executive Actions serve to strengthen the DACA program, and call for congress to enact laws to permanently protect dreamers. President Biden has also reversed the expansion of deportations and other enforcement actions, extended protections for many Liberians, and has reversed the Muslim travel ban which will allow many individuals with valid visas to finally join their loved ones in the United States.

Smith Knudson is carefully reviewing the new orders to see how they may be of benefit to our clients and the immigrant community as a whole. Although we are still cautious, these orders are a strong indication that President Biden will make good on his promises to U.S. Citizens and will enact legislation that allows many of us to reunite with loved ones, and to know that our families will be safe within our borders.
