At their yearly gathering, the U.S. Conference of Mayors – a non-partisan organization of cities population 30,000 or greater – approved a resolution calling for immigration reform and seeking to continue protection of immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The resolution recognized “Immigrants bring social, economic, and cultural benefits to communities nationwide” and “mayors and their cities continue to seek strategies to protect and secure ALL of their residents, while ensuring that local law enforcement is focused on community policing.”

Immigrants living in the U.S. are governed first by local authorities. Notably, one participating Mayor stated “… our city is a stronger, more prosperous place because of our immigrant story…. [W]e as a city are acting to help our friends, family and neighbors take the next step, whether that is applying for citizenship, learning about their rights, or accessing legal advice. We… stand with and support our immigrant and refugee communities.”
